Director, Laverne van Wyk, is honored by NAACAM during Women's Month 2020

Director at the age of 31, Laverne van Wyk's story empowers women across the Automotive Sector

During August, South Africa celebrates national Women’s Month. The National Association of Automotive Component & Allied Manufacturers (NAACAM) initiated a social media campaign called #AutomotiveAllies. This campaign celebrates how women have been integrating into key roles across its member companies.

Hansens Engineering’s Director, Laverne van Wyk, was featured in an article in 2020 for her achievements and contributions in Hansens Engineering and in across the Automotive sector. Laverne is an expert in Lean Manufacturing and Lean Leadership, particularly with regard to using IT to facilitate Lean Systems.

The article features a short biography about Laverne, including her 10-year journey from Industrial Engineer in Training to Company Director, as well as key learnings and advice she has for other women who are part of this sector. She is passionate about upliftment and mentorship, explaining that:
"Women who are currently in leading roles have a duty to educate, mentor and nurture relationships with the younger generation. It is important to encourage young women to enter into the STEM fields and then support them in the early stages of their working careers."
